In Memory: Simon Birkett

Posted by Martin Cordner on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, In : life news

I just wanted to add my own words of tribute to Simon, who passed away on Friday.

Simon and I first met in the 1990s when he began working at 101 Queen Victoria Street for the Salvation Army’s UK Music Editorial department, which at that time was under the headship of Richard Phillips. At that time, I also worked on ‘the building’ as it was known. I worked in the Public Relations Department in the basement, whilst I recall Music Editorial was situated on the top floor, just along from t...

A busy few months ahead

Posted by Martin Cordner on Sunday, January 17, 2016, In : life news

Hi there everybody,

Just a quick post to let you all know that I'm taking a break from composition and social media for the time being. This means that aside from one or two smaller music projects I am not undertaking any significant composition work. On the social media side, BugleTweet and ChoralTweet - along with my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts - are all taking a break, too.

Over the next few weeks I'll be out and about at a few band events. See you at one perhaps? Here are a few updates...

It's been a while since I've blown my cornet so it has been good to be at my first Anglia Fellowship Band (B/M Ray Todd) & Norfolk Fellowship Brass (B/M David Woodrow) rehearsals recently. I'm thrilled to be able to support both bands as part of my new role here in Norwich.

This summer, after three years in Belfast, Leanne and I with our children will be moving to Norwich, the Fine City. Such changes are a part of our calling as Salvation Army officers. We're excited to begin this next chapter in God's story for our lives; to face
new challenges and meet new friends. However, we're sad to leave so many good people behind, too. We thank God for technology which will enable us to keep in touch!

On the music front, I'm not expe...
