Escape Velocity: ISB premiere confirmed

Posted by Martin Cordner on Saturday, March 24, 2012, In : performances

Had confirmation today that the ISB will feature my recent work Escape Velocity in the second half of tonight's programme at Morley Town Hall. This is exciting news for me and I'm disappointed I can't be there to hear it. If you're going tonight I'd love to hear your response.

Quoting my earlier post:
"There's a strong gospel message within this piece; that though the pressures and values of the world seek to enslave us, the power of God shown in Christ affords us the opportunity to 'escape' i...

Two elementary numbers completed

Posted by Martin Cordner on Thursday, March 22, 2012, In : new music

I've recently submitted two new works to UK music ministries for possible inclusion in their forthcoming publication First things First vol. 2 - planned for release late 2012/early 2013.

First Things First was released in 2008 with the aim of providing elementary music for learner bands. There are 16 pieces in volume 1 of the journal and as with the present unity series, optional C, F and Bass Clef parts are available, making it accessible to school and wind bands.

It seems vol. 1 was very we...

Escape Velocity on ISB radar

Posted by Martin Cordner on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, In : performances

Friends within the ISB tell me that Escape Velocity was on the rehearsal room stands last week. I've now been asked for composer's remarks/score notes so it sounds as if it could be on the programme soon. I've been thrilled to know the ASB have been using the piece over the past year and would welcome news of an ISB performance if you get to hear one.

There's a strong gospel message within this piece; that though the pressures and values of the world seek to enslave us, the power of God shown ...

Music Available for Release

Posted by Martin Cordner on Saturday, March 10, 2012, In : new music

Life is exciting... each and every day we are presented with new opportunities and increasingly via this website, I'm getting more and more requests for music from different places around the world. In the last week alone I've had enquiries from places as far afield as South Africa, the Netherlands, the USA, plus at home here in the UK, too. I feel blessed to be able to serve you in this way and thank God for the opportunity.

To help with this I have on my bucket list to produce some kind of...

New Solo - 'Abide with Me'

Posted by Martin Cordner on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, In : new music

I'm happy to report that my first completed piece of music in a fair while - a Euphonium Solo on the hymn Abide with Me - has been sent to Hythe Salvation Army (pictured above). I'm grateful to Bandmaster Richard Carroll for his patience in waiting quite a few months for it to arrive. It will be played by Wes Carroll, the band's Euphonium soloist.

The piece itself is scored for Unity Series with moderately-easy band parts and a Grade 5-6 soloist part. There are three verses presented; the thi...

ASB recording of Fusion

Posted by Martin Cordner on Friday, March 2, 2012, In : performances

I'm really grateful to Bandmaster Olaf Ritman and the ASB for playing some of my music in recent years. They recently performed Fusion and I've linked an ASB video to the page for you to hear. It seems that for some reason they had to undergo an entire horn section transplant (!), but aside from that and one or two loose ends they give a confident read of this challenging piece for brass band.

I hope your spirit is lifted as you listen!

ASB recording of The Great Rescue

Posted by Martin Cordner on Friday, March 2, 2012, In : performances

Good to see that The Great Rescue is presently on the repertoire of the the Amsterdam Staff BandFor your interest I've linked a recent ASB video recording of the piece to the webpage above. I know of one or two corps bands around the world that have used the march, but I'm not sure it's being used by anybody else. If you know that it is, please get in touch!

The piece is freely available to bands. If you want the score and parts, just get in contact and I'll email them to you.
