Ten from Ten

Posted by Martin Cordner on Monday, February 27, 2012, In : articles

I'm drafting an article for the new articles section of this website that will identify ten of the most promising brass composers to have emerged in the last ten years... and I'd like your help with feedback.

First off, who would make your list of ten? Here are a few names to get you started - some are published while others are still emerging and by the way, not all are 'young'; we're talking men and women of all ages who have recently embarked on the road to resource the Army with music for ...

Impact published by SP&S

Posted by Martin Cordner on Thursday, February 23, 2012, In : publication

Another parcel today - this time a complimentary set of score & parts for Impact from the Music Department at THQ, London. Good to keep as a souvenir and even better to know that bands will (hopefully) avail of the march and use it to bless and inspire audiences wherever they serve.

Impact should now be available to purchase from SP&S/World of Brass.

USA Western Territorial Band & Songsters CD

Posted by Martin Cordner on Thursday, February 16, 2012, In : cd recordings

It's always a wonderful surprise to come home a find a parcel waiting for you, and it's especially good if there's a CD inside. It's an even greater - and happier - surprise when the CD contains one of your pieces (and you realise you don't have to pay the bill!) On this occasion I'm expressing thanks to Territorial Music Director Neil Smith for sending me a copy of Day of Rejoicing, the latest recording from the USA Western Territorial Band and Songsters

On this recording the band features ...

Readership Stats 2

Posted by Martin Cordner on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, In : site updates
Six months since I last shared this so, if you live for stats read on and if you don't, well... go and make a cup of tea.

1. The first wonderful (but possibly not surprising given the age we live in) stat is that cordnermusic.com has been viewed on six continents - wow!  A shame that nobody in Antarctica has yet taken the step, but who knows - maybe one day...

2. The next amazing fact is that 1,668 unique visitors have visited the site 3,309 times, generating over 20,000 page views.

No. visits b...

Twitter, study scores, new inspiration articles

Posted by Martin Cordner on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, In : site updates
I've recently relaunched my Twitter account and hope this will be an effective way of keeping you (those interested, that is!) up to date on everything. Why not link up with me there? I'd be glad to hear from you.

Thanks for the site comments and contacts that keep on coming through. I quite often get asked for copies of music scores and I am more than happy to supply to anyone interested.

I have also completed two pages on the music of Len Ballantine and Stephen Bulla for your interest. These ...

New North York Temple Band recording

Posted by Martin Cordner on Friday, February 10, 2012, In : cd recordings

It's been a thrill to learn recently that two of my earlier works, Battle Call and Amazing Grace have been chosen for the new North York Temple Band (Toronto, Canada) CD recording.

Bandmaster Glenn Barlow has chosen a repertoire of not-yet published (and possibly previously unrecorded?) manuscripts. The music has been written entirely by younger composers (yes - I am still fairly young, thank you for asking) and there is a strong British representation, too with five of the seven composers h...

Fusion publication & Pacific Coast

Posted by Martin Cordner on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, In : publication

Just heard the good news that subject to the usual copyright checks etc, Fusion is scheduled for publication in the Judd Street Collection in September 2013.

I am unable to offer it to bands (though strangely some bands have it already...I don't know how for sure but it may have been released by the ISB or the UK music department?) but hopefully it will be a useful addition to the repertoire of bands around the world.

For your interest I've recently created a new page for my march Pacific Coas...
