Take it to the Lord is my setting of the popular Singing Company (children's choir) song What a Friend which was published in the UK SA's New Songs for Young People journal (Sept. 1991).
The late Jane Clarke's fabulous music gives new life to the age-old song of the same name:
What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!Joseph Scriven (1819-86)

For the sake of continuity I would liked to have used the original song title What a Friend. However by the time my arrangement came to publication, fellow composer and friend Paul Sharman had already produced a swing arrangement with that name a year before, so Take it to the Lord was the next best choice.
You'll be pleased to know I still speak to Paul whenever I see him :-)
